Advice

Do you have any software that claims to boost your computer's performance? Most of these programs, especially registry scanners or cleaners, generally cause more problems than they fix. I've never seen them improve a computer, but boy, I have really them mess things up. The worst was when a registery cleaner killed a whole computer, and we had to start from scratch, reinstalling Windows and every program. That was a $300+ expense that could have been avoided.

I consider most performance enhancing programs to be the snake oil of the computer industry. The makers are preying on the typical computer user's naivete and ignorance, quite frankly. Now, there's nothing wrong with not knowing everything about computers. We all have things we are good at. Distribution of labor is what makes an economy work. So when it comes to things like this, feel free to ask someone who specializes in the field. And if they say this is a good idea, stop listening to them and talk to me.

Philosophy

I started working for myself because I got tired of not being able to provide the level of customer care I thought was deserved. I try to look at everything that happens during a job from my customer’s point of view. I’m not going to suggest what would work best if I, an experienced computer user, were in your position, but I will take the time to communicate with you to find out what works for you. A part of this is finding out what works financially – computers can be a major portion of a budget, business or personal, and I find ways to make sure every dollar is a good investment.

What is Computer Repair?

You might think you know, but the definition probably goes a little deeper. At least, the way I define it. Your computer (or iPad, or smartphone, or DVR) exists to improve the quality of your life. I think it can do this in two ways: by making things easier to do, and by enabling you to do more. Obviously, if the thing doesn’t turn on, it can’t do these things. But, if you can’t get it to do what you want it to do, it’s just as useless. That is where the majority of problems exist. And that’s why learning what my clients need from their computers is the starting point in any job. So “computer repair” covers hardware and software, but in my view, it also covers your ability to use the device.
